Week 4

Blog Improvements to work on:

  • Grammatical corrections (Switching from 1st to 3rd person)
  • Minor modifications/editing to design proposal (Any other additional design constraints?)
  • Adding pre-existing solutions with literature review/research

Project Goals to do this week:

  1. Evaluate design alternatives listed from last week
  2. Do research on each alternative in order to evaluate each according to the criteria (cost, efficacy, ease of use, environmental impact, safety, etc.)
  3. Come up with at least one additional criterion for evaluating alternatives
  4. Propose initial weighting formula that will be used to select the alternative and become the focus of project design

Week 2

Abstract: Drug delivery Ideas

  • Polymer material
    • The polymer material needs to be bio-compatible not biodegradable so that the polymer will not rupture causing accidental release of the medication inside the air bubbles. It should also be ideal to form a capsule around the air bubbles as well as be able to have molecules attached to its surface that allows it to be targeted to the specific organ or human system that the medication is intended for.
    • It should also pose no immune system response or reduce the chances of one occurring as this would definitely reduce efficiency of the entire project.
  • Number of bubbles we encapsulate in each liposome
    • Since this project deals with the cavitation and forces that rupture the air bubbles as well as the polymers encapsulating them, it would be important that the right number of bubbles will be filled with medication in each polymer capsule.
  • Cavitation and forces within each capsule
    • The bubbles should be able to rupture at certain ultrasonic frequencies when the ultrasonic transducer is directed at a target site in the human body to allow localized release of whatever medication or substance present within it.
  • Anti-sites on each capsule
    • This will help in the targeting of certain parts of the human body such as a tumor so that cancer medications can be localized and released allowing for great efficiency and reduced side effects.
  • Medication
    • Depending on what the bubbles are used for, the micro release of medications should be efficient and effective. Some medications can cause major side effects when taken globally but greatest efficiency when directed locally.
In summary, the aim of the project is to provide an optimum delivery system to effectively eradicate or efficiently treat an ailment, disease or severe medical condition.
